For Sherpa people, the mountains hold deep spiritual meaning. They are sacred places, home to deities and protective spirits. Some are left unclimbed out of respect, and expeditions to others begin with a puja: prayers and offerings that ask for blessings, protection and forgiveness before entering the mountain's domain. Today the Mountain Madness Ama Dablam team gathered for their puja. Tomorrow they begin their ascent. We wish them a safe climb, good conditions and a successful summit.

The team crossed the Cho La (5,420 m) and visited both Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) and Kala Patthar on clear days, with views of the world's highest peaks. Now back in Lobuche, they're preparing for Lobuche East (6,119 m).

Gokyo always impresses, but on a crystal-clear day like today it's something else. The team took in the full Himalayan panorama from Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,575 ft).
